A Perfect Day in Beaulieu-sur-Mer

If there is one place on the French Riviera that perfectly captures effortless elegance, it's Beaulieu-sur-Mer.
Tucked between Nice and Monaco, this charming seaside town has a quieter rhythm than many of its famous neighbors. There are no crowds rushing from one attraction to the next, no need to dress up to enjoy yourself—just crystal-clear water, palm-lined promenades, Belle Époque villas, beautiful beaches, and an atmosphere that encourages you to slow down and simply enjoy the Riviera.
It's one of those places where an afternoon can easily become an entire day.
Start with the Sea
Begin your day with a walk along the Maurice Rouvier Promenade, one of the most beautiful coastal paths on the Côte d'Azur.
Stretching from Beaulieu-sur-Mer toward Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, the promenade hugs the shoreline, offering uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean. The sea shifts between deep sapphire and brilliant turquoise, elegant villas peek through umbrella pines, and sailboats drift peacefully across the bay.
There is no destination here. The joy comes from walking slowly, stopping often, and taking in one spectacular view after another.
Visit Two of the Riviera's Most Beautiful Villas
One of the things we love most about Beaulieu-sur-Mer is that some of the Riviera's most remarkable landmarks are just a short walk away.
Perched on the nearby peninsula, Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is one of the French Riviera's true masterpieces. Built by Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild in the early 1900s, the elegant pink villa overlooks the Mediterranean on both sides and is surrounded by nine extraordinary themed gardens. From dancing fountains and rose gardens to Japanese landscapes and panoramic terraces, it's easy to spend several hours simply wandering through the grounds.
Just a few minutes away, Villa Kérylos offers something completely different. Inspired by the grand residences of Ancient Greece, this remarkable home is a faithful recreation of a noble Greek villa, complete with intricate mosaics, marble columns, peaceful courtyards, and stunning sea views. Together, the two villas offer a fascinating glimpse into the Riviera's rich cultural heritage.
Lunch That You'll Want to Linger Over
One of our favorite discoveries was Jasmin Grill & Lounge, the beautiful poolside restaurant at the Royal Riviera.
Surrounded by lush gardens and overlooking the sparkling waters of the Baie des Fourmis, it's exactly the kind of place that makes you forget about the time. Fresh Mediterranean cuisine, a chilled glass of rosé, the gentle sound of the water, and the warm Riviera sunshine create the perfect setting for a long, leisurely lunch.
Don't be surprised if one course turns into three.
Spend the Afternoon by the Water
After lunch, head down to one of Beaulieu's beautiful beaches.
Unlike many of the Riviera's busier destinations, the atmosphere here remains calm and relaxed, even during the summer months. The crystal-clear water is perfect for swimming, while paddleboards, kayaks, and other water sports offer the chance to explore the coastline from a different perspective.
Whether you choose to spend the afternoon on the beach or out on the water, this is the kind of place that encourages you to slow down and savor every moment.
End the Day at La Réserve
Before leaving, treat yourself to a drink at La Réserve de Beaulieu.
One of the Riviera's legendary luxury hotels, La Réserve has welcomed royalty, artists, and discerning travelers for generations. Even if you're not staying there, the terrace and pool bar offer a wonderful place to unwind after a day exploring the coast.
As the afternoon light softens over the Mediterranean, order your favorite cocktail and simply enjoy the view. The sea glitters below, sailboats drift quietly across the bay, and the elegant white façade of the hotel seems to glow in the golden light. It's one of those moments that perfectly captures the timeless charm of the French Riviera.
If you're looking for a truly memorable dinner, La Réserve is also home to the Michelin-starred Le Restaurant des Rois. Overlooking the Mediterranean, the restaurant pairs breathtaking sea views with refined Mediterranean cuisine and impeccable service, making it one of the most elegant dining experiences on the Côte d'Azur.
Why We Love Beaulieu-sur-Mer
Some places impress you immediately. Beaulieu-sur-Mer does something even better—it quietly wins you over.
Perhaps it's the scent of pine trees carried on the sea breeze, the gentle sound of the waves along the promenade, or the feeling that life moves just a little more slowly here. Maybe it's the elegant villas hidden behind flowering gardens, the long lunches overlooking the Mediterranean, or the simple pleasure of watching boats drift across impossibly blue water.
Whatever it is, Beaulieu-sur-Mer reminds us that the true luxury of the French Riviera isn't found in glamorous beach clubs or famous casinos. It's found in unhurried afternoons, beautiful scenery, and taking the time to appreciate them.
If you're looking for a place to experience the Côte d'Azur at its most peaceful, refined, and effortlessly beautiful, don't miss Beaulieu-sur-Mer.
